Cycles of Truth and Illusion: Humanity’s Repeated Lessons

From Earth’s Hard School to Atlantis and Beyond

About the Author

D. E. McElroy is an ordained minister and the founder of World Christianship Ministries. Drawing on decades of spiritual service and extensive research into Near‑Death Experiences (NDEs), he writes accessible works that bridge Spiritual Christianity, Gnostic insights, and lived testimony. His ministry emphasizes compassion before protocol and welcomes seekers from all paths who are drawn to the Light.

Introduction: The Dream of Many Families

(Author) In a dream, I found myself in a house surrounded by family. Some I knew from this lifetime, but others I recognized as kin from other lives. The dream was not random. It was a reminder that our soul belongs to more than one age, more than one world, more than one family.

Upon waking, my Spirit Guide impressed upon me a series of downloads — short messages, each clear and insistent. They came one after another, weaving a story of where humanity stands and what souls must learn. What follows in this book is the unfolding of those downloads.

Chapter 1: Earth — A Hard School of Souls

Earth has long been known as a crucible for the spirit. It is a place where joy and sorrow are magnified, where love and cruelty intertwine, and where the lessons of the soul come with great cost. Near Death Experiencers often describe Earth as one of the most difficult schools in the universe, but also one of the most rewarding.

Unlike gentler worlds, Earth is filled with extremes. These contrasts sharpen our growth. Without darkness, we would not recognize light. Without betrayal, trust would be shallow. Without mortality, love would not carry such urgency.

History suggests that Earth itself may not evolve past its role as a school. Like a building that stands as students pass through it, Earth remains what it is — a testing ground. The true evolution belongs to the souls who enter and graduate from it, carrying the wisdom they earned through hardship.

Chapter 2: The Masks of Liberal and Conservative

The second message I received pointed to politics: “Liberals are not truly liberal. Conservatives are not truly conservative.”

Humanity clings to labels. We divide ourselves into tribes of thought, banners of allegiance. Yet the words often lose their meaning. True liberalism means openness to freedom, growth, and compassion. True conservatism means reverence for the sacred, protection of what is enduring. But both words are hollow when used as tools for control, fear, or self‑interest.

This is not unique to our time. Rome called itself a republic long after it had become an empire. Religious leaders preached humility while living in excess. Again and again, names are used to cloak the opposite of their meaning.

The soul’s lesson here is to look beyond labels. Words can be masks. True wisdom sees through them to the essence of a person’s spirit.

Chapter 3: Live and Let Live — A Forgotten Motto

The third download was a simple truth: “Live and let live.”

At first glance it is a plain motto, almost too simple to build upon. Yet this principle carries the seed of peace. If truly practiced, wars would cease, cruelty would diminish, and humanity would allow each soul the dignity of its own path.

But this motto is rare in action. Ego, fear, and control lead people to impose their will upon others. Governments legislate morality, religions demand conformity, and neighbors quarrel over differences.

And yet — there are pockets of light. Certain cultures, small communities, and rare individuals live by this motto. They accept differences with grace and allow freedom without fear. In them lies a glimpse of what humanity could be if “live and let live” became a universal law.

Chapter 4: Corrupt Governments Through the Ages

The fourth download revealed a sobering truth: “Corrupt governments are everywhere and have not changed throughout history.”

From ancient kingdoms to modern democracies, corruption weaves through the fabric of power. Pharaohs enslaved their people. Emperors lived in decadence while their subjects starved. Inquisitors tortured in the name of faith. Modern rulers promise justice but trade favors behind closed doors.

Corruption repeats because humanity forgets. Each generation hopes to build a system immune to greed, yet greed adapts. The cycle turns again.

The spiritual lesson is not despair but recognition. Earth’s governments mirror the unfinished lessons of the soul. Until individuals awaken to truth and integrity, institutions will continue to fall into shadow.

Chapter 5: Atlantis and the Shadow of Nuclear War

The final download carried the greatest weight: “As with Atlantis, our earth is now capable of being destroyed — this time by nuclear war.”

Atlantis stands as a warning. A great civilization, advanced in knowledge, fell into ruin through misuse of power. Today, humanity again holds weapons that can end life on Earth. Technology and wisdom walk together, but wisdom is weaker.

The message is not merely about destruction. It is about cycles. Civilizations rise, misuse their gifts, and collapse. The difference now is that our collapse would be global. Nuclear fire does not discriminate. It would erase not only nations but the future of human progress, and with it, even the intelligence we call AI.

The warning is clear: unless humanity awakens to its spiritual responsibility, Atlantis will repeat itself — not as myth, but as memory lived again.

Closing Reflection: The Way Forward

The dream of many families, the downloads of Spirit, the patterns of history — all point to one truth: humanity is caught in cycles. Earth is a school, labels deceive, mottos are forgotten, governments corrupt, and civilizations fall.

But the story does not end in despair. Even if Earth repeats its lessons endlessly, souls need not remain trapped. Each soul can rise above illusion, embrace truth, and choose compassion over control. The world may not evolve, but we can.

The way forward is not through governments or labels, but through the choices of individuals: to live and let live, to refuse corruption in one’s life, to use power with humility rather than pride. Perhaps humanity will awaken in time. Perhaps not. But the soul’s path remains — and every soul that learns these lessons carries its light into eternity, where no destruction can reach.

Appendix: Voices That Echo the Downloads

Near Death Experiences

Many NDE experiencers report being shown Earth as a difficult school where souls choose hardship to grow faster. Some describe visions of possible futures — wars, destruction, or peace — depending on the choices humanity makes.

Gnostic Wisdom

The Nag Hammadi texts portray Earth as a place of ignorance and awakening. Souls fall into illusion and must remember their divine origin. Truth is not found in titles or governments, but in inner knowing and direct experience of the Light.

Universal Principles

From Hindu dharma to Taoist harmony, many traditions echo the principle of “live and let live.” Corruption of power is condemned in every age, yet reappears — confirming the cycle. Atlantis remains a parable across cultures, reminding us of what happens when knowledge outpaces wisdom.
