Religious score: Agreement on tradition, scriptures, and community. Spiritual score: Agreement on personal experience, inner guidance, and many paths. Independent score: Agreement with “I don’t think much about religion/spirituality” and a general pattern of neutral or disagree across the other items.

1) I believe in a Higher Power or Divine Being that watches over humanity.

How Scores Are Calculated

Religious score: A or B on items 1, 2, 4, 7, 10.
Spiritual score: A or B on items 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11.
Independent score: A or B on item 12, plus a pattern of C/D/E across the rest.
